Backlash (2021) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on May 30, 2021 in a location yet to be determined. It will be the third annual in WWE's production lineage for the Backlash event. It will feature talent from the Raw brand.
Background[]
Backlash will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that played out on WWE's primary television program, Raw. Wrestlers portrayed heels or faces as they followed a series of events that built tension, and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.
At WrestleMania 37, Liv Morgan would win a battle royal to become the #1 Contender for the Women's Championship outlasting Velvet Sky (whom earned a Goddess Championship match). That same night Montez Ford would win a battle royal himself last eliminating Jimmy Jacobs to become the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship while Jacobs became the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
On the April 25, 2021 episode of Raw, Jake Anderson would attack Kevin Owens from behind following his match after feigning that he was back home in Florida and posing as a camera man. Anderson would proceed to issue a challenge to Kevin Owens for a match at Backlash wanting to get rid of Owens once and for all so he could get back into contention for the WWE Championship.
