Cyber Sunday (2020) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on December 20, 2020 at the Accor Hotel Arena in Paris, France. It will be the ninth annual in WWE's production lineage for the Cyber Sunday event. It will feature talent from the SmackDown brand.
Background[]
Cyber Sunday will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that played out on WWE's secondary television program, SmackDown. Wrestlers portrayed heels or faces as they followed a series of events that built tension, and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.
At Survivor Series, Team SmackDown emerged victorious over Team Raw in the Traditional 5 on 5 Survivor Series match. At the same event, The Miz would win the Hardcore Championship bringing it back over to SmackDown while Jon Moxley & Karrion Kross successfully defended their Tag Team Championships along with Bayley & Tenille Dashwood. Shane Thorne would successfully defend his Universal Championship while Boogeyman successfully defended his United States Championship against Heath Slater. Both Ruby Riott and Allie emerged victorious in a Battle Royal to earn a shot at Nixon Newell's SmackDown Women's Championship. On the December 11th, 2020 episode of SmackDown, William Regal would congratulate Team SmackDown before proceeding to take credit for their win and when asked what their rewards would be proceeded to go on a verbal tirade and ripped into each member of the team thus turning heel. Stone Cold Steve Austin would make a shocking appearance on SmackDown before announcing that Shane Thorne would defend his championship against Kane, Johnny Gargano & Finn Bálor would challenge for the Tag Team Championships along with a team from Raw, Bianca Belair would challenge Alicia Fox for the Goddess Championship while Peyton Royce was added to the Triple Threat SmackDown Women's Championship match making it a Fatal Four Way. The show would end with Austin revealing that he was the new Co-SmackDown General Manager and would proceed to give Regal a stunner to close the show.
