Background[]
Halloween Havoc featured professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing feuds, plots, and storylines that will play out on WWE's primary television program Raw. Wrestlers portray villains or heroes as they follow a series of events that builds tension and culminates in a wrestling match or series of matches.
The main feud heading into Halloween Havoc is between Shane Helms and WWE Champion, Ciaran O'Donnell. At last year's Halloween Havoc it was O'Donnell who defeated Helms to win his first WWE Championship. O'Donnell would later go on to lose the title to Tyler Chandler at Cyber Sunday before reclaiming it at Unforgiven. Helms would challenge O'Donnell for the title at SummerSlam however he would come up short. On the October 7, 2013 episode of Raw, Helms defeated Matt Hardy to become the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship once more and the match was later made official a week later at Halloween Havoc where the two would face off in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match.
Another match heading into the PPV is the Women's Championship match between Eva Marie and Ashley Massaro. Marie won a #1 Contenders match in order to earn the right to challenge for the title. Marie would later betray Michael Riley by slapping him across the face and then her new associate, (later revealed as her "boyfriend") Jeff Hardy attacked him putting him out of action. A week later on Raw Marie and Cammy Chaos defeated Ashley Massaro and Sally Mason pinning the champion and gain a whole lot of momentum heading into their match.
