Judgment Day (2014)

Judgment Day (2013) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by WWE, taking place on October 6, 2013 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York. It was be only the second annual Judgment Day since it's return to the PPV Calendar. The reigning WWE United States Champion, Jake Anderson is featured on the poster.

Background[]

Judgment Day will feature professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing feuds, plots, and storylines that will play out on WWE's secondary television program Smackdown. Wrestlers portray villains or heroes as they follow a series of events that builds tension and culminates in a wrestling match or series of matches.

At SummerSlam, Jimmy Jacobs won an open Gauntlet match in order to become the #1 Contender for the WWE United States Championship. Later in the night Jake Anderson defeated Justin Gabriel in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match, after punching Gabriel with a pair of brass knuckles forcing him to fall off the ladder and through a table. It was later revealed that Anderson would defend the championship against Jacobs at Judgment Day.

It was announced on the following episode of Smackdown that a Deuces Wild Tournament would take place to name the new #1 Contenders for both the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Divas Championship. Superstars and Divas would team up and face one another in tag team matches. On the September 28, 2013 episode of Smackdown Sterling James Keenan defeated Roman Reigns in a rematch from SummerSlam to win back the World Heavyweight Championship.

On the October 5, 2013 episode of Smackdown the final round of the Deuces Wild Tournament took place pitting Michael Noventa, Justin Gabriel and Chuck Taylor against one another, while Kaitlyn, Katie Lea Noventa and Trista Anderson were pitted against each other to see who would face Lian Cortes at the PPV for the WWE Divas Championship. In the end both Michael Noventa and Trista Anderson would go on to win the Deuces Wild Tournament for their respective championships. It was then made official for Judgment Day that Noventa would challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship with The Shield in his corner. It was also made official that Trista Anderson would challenge for Lian Cortes' WWE Divas Championship.

Another match taking place on the card is between Wade Barrett and Jon Moxley who have been feuding with one another ever since April. The last time these two faced was back at WrestleMania XXIX where Barrett defeated Moxley sending him to rehab for the next few months. Another rivalry heading into Judgment Day is the feud between Teddy Hart and Dolph Ziggler over Hart's wife Kristen Melissa.
