NXT Takeover: R Evolution is an upcoming professional wrestling event produced by WWE, featuring their developmental branch WWE NXT, that will take place on May 25, 2016 at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.

It will be a special episode of WWE NXT and the second live professional wrestling event streamed online via the WWE Network.

NXT Takeover: R Evolution will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines that played out on the WWE NXT television program. Wrestlers portrayed faces (heroes) or heels (villains) as they followed a series of events that built tension and culminated in a match or a series of matches.

On the April 13, 2016 episode of NXT, Interim NXT General Manager, Emma revealed that the second live special for NXT would be called NXT Takeover: R Evolution and that it would take place on May 25, 2016 at Full Sail University while also revealing that both the NXT and the NXT Women's Championships would be defended that night. Later that night during a conversation between herself and Mason Wolfe she revealed that in two weeks on the May 3, 2016 episode of NXT she would crown the first ever NXT Tag Team Champions and that Wolfe would receive a shot at the championships and that he had a week to choose a partner and if he couldn't find a partner she would choose his partner for him. Emma also added a twist that whoever wins the NXT Tag Team Championships would also earn an NXT Championship match at NXT Takeover: R Evolution. That same night in the main event Jacob Woods defeated Luke Harper and Tommy End in a triple threat match to become the new NXT Champion and earn his spot at NXT Takeover: R Evolution.
