The NXT Women's Championship is a professional wrestling championship owned and competed for exclusively in NXT, WWE's developmental territory female division. The championship is generally contested in professional wrestling matches, in which participants execute scripted finishes.
Title history[]
The NXT Women's Championship was created in December 2015 after it was announced that WWE NXT was returning as a brand to help usher in the next generation of WWE Superstars and Divas. It would later be announced by NXT General Manager, William Regal that both the NXT Championship and the NXT Women's Championship would be contested for at the first NXT live special, NXT Takeover: Arrival. Alexa Bliss was named the #1 Contender for the championship after defeating Nia Jax on an episode of NXT before Remi Skyfire earned herself a shot at the championship by beating Bliss. A match was scheduled between Billie Kay and Dana Brooke to see who would join both Bliss and Skyfire in a Triple threat match for the championship at Arrival. Kay would go on to win the match thus entering the triple threat match. At Arrival, Skyfire defeated both Bliss and Kay to become the first NXT Women's Champion.
