New Year's Revolution (2016) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on January 10, 2016 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the tenth annual New Year's Revolution event. It is also the first pay-per-view in the 2016 lineup and will for the second consecutive year hold more than one Elimination Chamber match.
New Year's Revolution will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines that play out on WWE's primary television programs, Raw and SmackDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a match or series of matches.
At Survivor Series, Team Bella Army/Shield defeated Team Corporate Structure thus disbanding them as well as removing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon from power on Raw, leaving Brie Bella with complete control. During the same match, Seth Rollins lastly eliminated Wade Barrett to win the WWE Championship after interference from Bobby Roode. On the December 7, 2015 episode of Raw, two Elimination Chamber qualifying matches took place with Kenny Omega defeating Sami Zayn in the first and Jake Anderson defeating Brock Lesnar in the second. Three Elimination Chamber qualifying matches took place for the WWE Women's Championship Elimination Chamber. Maria Kanellis won the first, followed by Paige and then lastly Maxine.
It was also revealed that prior to them being ousted from power Triple H and Stephanie had made matches for the final Raw of 2015 where Rollins would defend the WWE Championship against Barrett; while Roman Reigns would defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Colt Cabana and Nikki Bella would defend the WWE Women's Championship against the current #1 Contender Kaitlyn. The rivalry between Jake Anderson and John Cena continued on Raw with Anderson being the Special Guest Referee for the match between Cena and Kaitlyn that was set up by Stephanie McMahon at Survivor Series. The match ended up a no contest after Anderson attacked Cena only for him to be double teamed by both Kaitlyn and Cena, ending up on the receiving end of an Attitude Adjustment and a Spear. Three more Elimination Chamber qualifying matches took place on the December 14, 2015 episode of Raw with Matt Sydal defeating Bobby Roode in the first, followed by Scott Steiner defeating John Cena in the second and lastly Dean Ambrose. Two more took place for the Women's Championship Chamber match with Beth Phoenix winning the first and then Angel Williams winning the last one.
