New Year's Revolution (2017) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on January 8, 2017 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is the eleventh annual New Year's Revolution event. It is also the first pay-per-view in the 2017 lineup and will for the third consecutive year hold more than one Elimination Chamber match.
Background[]
New Year's Revolution will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines that play out on WWE's primary television programs, Raw and SmackDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a match or series of matches.
At Survivor Series Goldberg defeated Ciaran O'Donnell to win the World Heavyweight Championship. On the final Smackdown of 2016, Team United Kingdom consisting of O'Donnell, Will Ospreay, Grado and Beatrice Priestley won the Smackdown World Cup for the second straight year, thus O'Donnell, Ospreay and Grado were entered into the Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship with champion, Goldberg; the final two spots being revealed at a later date. Priestley earned herself an opportunity at the WWE Divas Championship at New Year's Revolution.
On the final Raw of 2016, Roman Reigns successfully defended his WWE Championship against Dean Ambrose and would thus be set to defend his championship inside the Elimination Chamber. Qualifying matches took place that same night for the right to enter the chamber with Shane Helms, Adam Cole, Johnny Mundo and Enzo Amore qualifying respectively. The sixth and final spot would be revealed at the PPV itself.
