No Mercy (2020) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on October 4, 2020, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. It will be the sixth annual in WWE's production lineage for the No Mercy event. It will feature talent from the SmackDown brand and will be the first SmackDown exclusive PPV since 2019's No Mercy.
Background[]
No Mercy will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that played out on WWE's secondary television program, SmackDown. Wrestlers portrayed heels or faces as they followed a series of events that built tension, and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.
In May 2020 it was revealed by Triple H that the brand split would be returning and both Raw and SmackDown would have their own separate rosters. It was also revealed that the brand split would officially go into effect following the Unforgiven PPV and that leading up to it Superstars could appear on both shows to wrap up the current ongoing storylines. That would later be extended to the SummerSlam PPV on August 30th.
At SummerSlam (2020), Nixon Newell successfully retained her championship against Bianca Belair continuing her reign. Earlier in the night Allie was victorious in a Triple Threat #1 Contenders match. A few days later it was revealed that the match would take place at No Mercy. It would later be revealed that Mandy Leon, Nikki Cross, Rosemary, Ruby Riott & Taya Valkyrie would compete in a Fatal Five Way match on the September 11th, 2020 episode of SmackDown with the winner becoming the #1 Contender for the WWE Goddess Championship and would face Alicia Fox at No Mercy for the championship. On the September 11th, 2020 episode of SmackDown, Rosemary would win the Fatal Five Way to become the new #1 Contender for the Goddess Championship. Later that night Big E would win the WWE United States Championship defeating former champion Bray Wyatt, Adam Page and Heath Slater in a Fatal Four Way Steel Cage match. Immediately following the match William Regal would come out and congratulate him before revealing that he would defend his championship against The Boogeyman at No Mercy. On the September 18, 2020 episode of SmackDown, Otis and Angel Garza ended up being the two surviving participants in a Battle Royal where the final two would receive a reward. William Regal would come out after the match and reveal that the two men would face off against each other on the following SmackDown with the winner challenging Shane Thorne for the Universal Championship at No Mercy. Regal would then announce that Thorne would serve as the Special Guest Referee in that match.
