Royal Rumble (2016) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on February 28, 2016 at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It will be the 11th event under the Royal Rumble chronology and the second WWE pay-per-view of 2016. This will be the first Royal Rumble to be held in the state of Florida.

Background[]

The Royal Rumble will consist of professional wrestling matches that involve wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines that play out on WWE's primary television programs, Raw and SmackDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.

The card will be highlighted by the traditional Royal Rumble match, and it will once again be a 40-men Royal Rumble match the same as last year's event. At New Year's Revolution after Dean Ambrose won the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber, Colt Cabana came out and announced that he was going to cash in his Money in the Bank contract at the Royal Rumble PPV and that he was going to headline WrestleMania 32 as the WWE Champion. Both Big Show and Magnus announced their entry into the Royal Rumble the following week on Raw. That same week on Smackdown, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens and Briley Pierce were all confirmed for the Royal Rumble match while Cesaro announced his entry into the match. On the January 28, 2016 episode of Smackdown after Summer Rae defeated Ashley Massaro in a non-title match, Mick Foley announced that Massaro would defend her WWE Divas Championship against Rae at the Royal Rumble. On the February 1, 2016 episode of Raw, Jake Anderson announced his entry into the Royal Rumble match. On the February 4, 2016 episode of Smackdown, Mick Foley announced that Graves would defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Tyler Chandler in an I Quit Match while also confirming both Samuel Shaw and Sheamus as entrants in the Royal Rumble as well as revealing that Sheamus would be the second entrant in the match.
