The Syndicate was a villainous professional wrestling stable performing in WWE on the SmackDown brand. The group was composed of Jake Anderson (leader), Priscilla Kelly, Lola Vice and Dominik Mysterio.
The seeds for the foundation of the stable were planted in November 2022 at Survivor Series (2022) when Jake Anderson made his return after a brief hiatus and attacked members of The Bálor Club thus turning heel and effectively leaving Bálor Club. The group would officially form in March 2023 on an episode of SmackDown referring to themselves as Liberty.
On the February 2, 2024 episode of SmackDown the group was rebranded as The Syndicate.
History[]
On the March 3rd, 2023 episode of SmackDown after Anderson defeated Carmelo Hayes, Anderson revealed the formation of the group calling it the official birth of Liberty. He reflected on his times as part of previous groups such as the Corporate Structure, Bullet Club, Bálor Club, The Creed and the Undisputed Era. Reminding everyone that he was all but a member of those groups, a follower and that this group was his and that he was a leader now. He revealed that they wanted a change on SmackDown and that they were going to liberate it from the likes of the CM Punk's, Finn Bálor's and the Bryan Danielson's. At No Mercy despite Liberty's best efforts, both Bálor and Anderson's Last Man Standing match would end in a no contest when neither man was able to make it to their feet within the ten count. On the following episode of SmackDown after CM Punk proposed a rematch between himself and Bryan Danielson for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania, Anderson along with Liberty would interrupt. The group would proceed to beat down both men before they would handcuff CM Punk to the ropes and force him to watch as they brutally beat down Bryan Danielson before Anderson would hit Danielson with the Lethal Injection while Bryan's head was trapped inside of a steel chair, seriously injuring him. A week later, CM Punk would challenge Anderson to a match for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania. Later that night Anderson along with Jake Roberts would interfere in the match between Punk and Eddie Kingston, allowing Kingston to beat the champion. In an exclusive after the show, Anderson would accept Punk's challenge for WrestleMania before revealing his alliance with Jake Roberts who had not joined Liberty but was merely an associate. On the April 7, 2023 episode of SmackDown, Anderson and Darius Lockhart would defeat the team of CM Punk and Finn Bálor after Roberts used bear mace on CM Punk which allowed Anderson to choke out Punk to win the match.
At WrestleMania and after interference from both Liberty, Jake Roberts and Bret Hart, Anderson would beat Punk at WrestleMania following a low blow and Punk questioning whether to use a chair to win the Universal Championship for the first time.
